Buehler: Life vest rule is ‘government overreach’

Oregon bill would require river floaters to have life vests

A state lawmaker from Bend says a proposal to require people floating on Oregon rivers to wear life jackets has gone too far.

Rep. Knute Buehler, a Republican lawmaker from Bend, says the proposal is an example of “government overreach.” On Tuesday, Buehler sent a letter to Oregon Gov. Kate Brown asking her to stop supporting the bill, which would require everyone floating on pool toys, air mattresses and inner tubes on Oregon’s rivers and streams to wear life jackets.
