Editorial: Trump budget proposal good for wild horse problem

The mystique of the wild horse on open range has clouded thinking for decades, preventing appropriate steps to keep herds and the land healthy by controlling the horse population.

In just the past eight years, the Bureau of Land Management’s budget for wild-horse management has grown from $36.2 million to $80.4 million, according to The Associated Press. And that’s just to continue an untenable situation where thousands of horses are held in pens while more roam free in numbers larger than the land can support.
