Bridge bill sent to full Senate

Amendments to bill could open up new opposition

A legislative fight over a possible pedestrian bridge across the Deschutes River beat the clock Thursday — but just barely — to move on to the full Senate, just before committees shut down for the 2017 session.

The bill initially sought to ban a bridge across the river but now contains a compromise — an amendment approved Thursday — to allow a bridge only in one specific area.
