Oregon State Hospital patient uses shoelace in attempted strangulation, police say

State police are investigating an attempted murder at the Oregon State Hospital after a patient at the Salem psychiatric treatment center allegedly tried to strangle another patient with a shoelace.

According to a probable cause statement filed in Marion County, Oregon State Police responded to the hospital and reviewed surveillance video on the May 24 incident.
