Military aims to add Central, Eastern Oregon airspace for jet training

Oregon National Guard could use 2,500 square miles for safer flights

Residents in northern parts of Central and Eastern Oregon may see F-15 jets performing exercises overhead, potentially as soon as next spring.

Military officials want to designate approximately 2,500 square miles of airspace over parts of Sherman, Gilliam, Morrow, Grant, Wheeler, Jefferson and Wasco counties for the jets, according to a proposal from the U.S. Air Force and the National Guard Bureau.
