Democrats continue to push business tax despite its slim odds of approval

Democrats continued their public push for a major new tax on businesses on Tuesday, even though its chances of passing this session are becoming increasingly remote.

At a pair of public hearings, lawmakers heard from supporters and opponents of the latest proposal, a compromise between House Speaker Tina Kotek of Portland and Sen. Mark Hass, a Beaverton Democrat.
