County jail one step closer to opening more beds

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office has had a jail bed problem since 2015. Two years ago, Sheriff Craig Zanni announced a temporary reduction in jail beds from 98 to 49. Now that may finally start to change.

“The goal is to get back to 100 beds,” Zanni said. “Part of the problem was budgeting, where I hadn’t been able to pay our deputies a competitive salary.”
