Deschutes denied new judge

A bill that would have provided judicial support was amended.

Despite claims by local legal officials that they need help, state lawmakers are unlikely to give the Deschutes County Circuit Court an additional judge this year.

House Bill 2605 sought to bolster the state’s judicial circuits by adding 10 judges throughout eight counties based on need and the ability to expand, such as with a vacant courtroom. As introduced, the bill would have given Deschutes County an eighth judge. But it has since been amended to Deschutes County’s disadvantage.
