Guns and taxes are speed bumps in marathon session.

During a day that was at once furiously fast and painfully tedious, the Legislature pushed dozens of bills to the governor’s desk in the hopes of getting out of town soon.

As lawmakers arrived at the Capitol on Thursday morning, there was confidence that adjournment was possible at the close of business, by suspending rules so they could compress the time a bill would normally linger in a chamber from days or weeks to hours — or even minutes.
