Juvenile salmon make their home in recently restored habitat

Catherine Creek considered crucial coldwater refuge for fish.

An investment of almost $3 million into a Northeast Oregon stream is already proving fruitful with evidence of young salmon living in the newly created habitat.

Recent underwater video footage show schools of juvenile chinook salmon, born this winter, swimming in side channels constructed in Catherine Creek’s floodplain on the former 545-acre Southern Cross Ranch outside of Union.
