It’s likely that many Oregonians are unaware of the fact that today is River Appreciation Day in Oregon.

The first celebration was held 30 years ago, at River Forks Park on the Umpqua River. The state Legislature didn’t make it official until two years later, passing a resolution in 1989 declaring the third Saturday in July as River Appreciation Day.
