Region’s AC, fans set records for power use as heat scorched valley

PGE customers traditionally use more electricity during the winter than in the summer. That could be changing. The utility reported that more Portland-area residents – about 70 percent of homes in the PGE service area – have air conditioning than in the past.

The Northwest’s triple-digit heat wave has produced a new record: electrical power usage.
