Forest fire east of Eugene-Springfield nears 1,000 acres burned

A wildfire in the mountains east of Eugene-Springfield has burned nearly 1,000 acres and continues to grow. The Rebel Fire remains uncontained, William Kelly, spokesman for the interagency team fighting the fire, said Thursday. First spotted last Friday, the fire has charred 900 acres — almost 1½ square miles — primarily in the Three Sisters Wilderness.
