After-school rule a good move, if it works

The best thing about McLoughlin Middle School’s new policy requiring students attending after-school events to be accompanied by an adult is that it is intended to be temporary. A permanent rule would serve only to push away students who need socialization, and could unfairly affect the children of working and single parents.

Principal Kelly Soter told parents last week that disruptive behavior from unaccompanied student spectators at sporting events led to the new rule. The behavior included offensive language and disrespect toward adults who tried to intervene.
