Opinion: How Oregon’s new paid leave and family leave rules will affect employers

Summer is always a hot time for time off requests, and this summer Oregon employers face a new set of challenges adapting to recent changes to the Oregon Family Leave Act and Paid Leave Oregon, effective as of July 1.

These changes, which modify family and medical leave rules, are the result of legislation passed earlier this year known as Senate Bill 1515. Their primary purpose is to limit the leave previously available under OFLA in an attempt to prevent employees from taking consecutive leaves under the two laws.
