Portland murder suspect ID’d as man who fatally OD’d on fentanyl at Oregon State Hospital

A judge closed the murder case against a Portland man who died of a suspected fentanyl overdose at the Oregon State Hospital while awaiting trial on charges that he intentionally ran over a machinist near the St. Johns Bridge in 2021.

Roy Bennett Jr., 32, had been under treatment at the state-run psychiatric hospital in Salem for more than a year when he was found dead two weeks ago from a suspected overdose.
