When Portland International Airport opens its refurbished main terminal in August, visitors will be met with a rippling nine-acre roof entirely constructed out of wood.

The roof’s crests and valleys will be made of mass timber, wood strong enough to support skyscrapers — or reinforce an industry in distress.
