We know them as 911 dispatchers. Professionally, they’re called public safety telecommunicators.

Whatever title we use, for the past 28 years in Linn County, within the network of first responders, they have been the anonymous conveyors of information, and the coordinators of help. They are trained to remain calm in the chaos, handling 57,000 calls each year.
