Editorial: Oregon legislators must now work together

Surely one of the most significant outcomes in Tuesday’s election in Oregon was the handy defeat of Ballot Measure 97, which would have imposed a 2.5 percent tax on the gross receipts of some of the state’s largest businesses. The loss, combined with Democrats’ apparent failure to gain a supermajority in the state House of Representatives and potential loss of that majority in the Senate, means the 2017 Legislature will have to do something it’s avoided in recent years. Democrats and Republicans will have to find ways to reach out to one another to get the state’s business done.
